Rivaroxaban

[MAF] Rivaroxaban Tablet 15 mg, 20 mg

1. Prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF)* and CHA₂DS₂-VASc score of 1 or more for men, and 2 or more for women
   *This excludes patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis or prosthetic heart valves

2. Treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) and the prevention of recurrent DVT and PE in adults. MAF assistance does not apply to patients with isolated distal DVT

01/07/2022 Non-vitamin K antagonist oral anti-coagulation agents (NOACs) for the treatment and secondary prevention of venous thromboembolism

The Ministry of Health’s Drug Advisory Committee has recommended:

• Rivaroxaban 15 mg and 20 mg tablets, and apixaban 2.5 mg and 5 mg tablets for adults to:

  • treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE); and

  • prevent recurrent DVT and PE.

Subsidy status

[R] Rivaroxaban 15 mg and 20 mg tablets are recommended for inclusion on the Medication Assistance Fund (MAF) for the abovementioned indications.

[NR] MAF assistance do not apply to the following:

• the use of rivaroxaban for isolated distal DVT; or

• rivaroxaban 2.5 mg and 10 mg tablets.

[R] Apixaban 2.5 mg and 5 mg tablets are recommended for reclassification from MAF to the MOH Standard Drug List (SDL).

[NR] SDL subsidy or MAF assistance do not apply to any strengths of dabigatran.

  • CHA₂DS₂-VASc score of 1 or more for men; and

  • CHA₂DS₂-VASc score of 2 or more for women.

Rivaroxaban or apixaban should not be used in patients with valvular AF (especially rheumatic mitral stenosis), or patients with prosthetic heart valves.

Subsidy status

[R] Rivaroxaban 15 mg and 20 mg tablets are recommended for inclusion on the Medication Assistance Fund (MAF) for the abovementioned indication.

[R] Apixaban 2.5 mg and 5 mg tablets are recommended for reclassification from MAF to the MOH Standard Drug List (SDL).
