2. What is Allerzal used for
Allerzal is used to treat the symptoms of:
Allergic rhinitis (e.g. sneezing, runny nose, itching of the nose and/or eyes) excluding persistent allergic rhinitis;
Chronic idiopathic urticaria (a raised, itchy rash of unknown cause).
4. How to use Allerzal
Adults and adolescents 12 years and above:
The recommended dose is 5mg once daily (1 film-coated tablet).
Children aged 6 to 12 years:
The recommended dose is 5mg once daily (1 film-coated tablet).
The use of Allerzal is not recommended for children under 6 years.
Special dosage instructions for specific populations
If you have impaired kidney function, you may be given a lower dose according to the severity of your kidney disease, and body weight will be taken into consideration in children. The dose will be determined by your doctor.
If you have end-stage kidney disease or are undergoing dialysis, you must not take Allerzal.
No dose adjustment is needed if you have liver impairment alone. However, if you have both liver and kidney impairment, please consult your doctor for dose adjustments.
No dose adjustment is needed in the elderly, provided their kidney function is normal.
When to use it
Allerzal must be taken orally, swallowed whole with liquid and may be taken with or without food.
How long to use it
Do not take Allerzal for longer than 10 days without medical advice.
The duration of use when determined by your doctor may be longer as it depends on the type, duration and course of your complaints.
If you forget to use it
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and just take the next dose. Do not double up on the dose to make up for the missed dose.
If you use too much (overdose)
Contact your doctor immediately for advice if you think you may have taken too much of this medicine than you should. Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness in adults. For children, they may show signs of agitation and restlessness initially, followed by drowsiness.
3. Before you use Allerzal
Do not use Allerzal:
If you are allergic to levocetirizine dihydrochloride, cetirizine, or any of the other ingredients of Allerzal (refer to Product Description section – please refer to the Product Insert/Patient Information Leaflet published on HSA for the full drug information);
If you have a severe kidney impairment with creatinine clearance below 10 ml/min.
